With Valentine’s Day coming up quick, we’ve been busy doing all kinds of red and pink Valentine’s Day crafts and activities. My kids really enjoyed this DIY Valentine’s Day banner and this cute Heart Valentine Butterfly Craft.
So, we decided to add a Marble Painting Heart craft to the agenda.
This Valentine’s Day Marble Painting Craft with free heart printable is a great way to celebrate Valentines Day with preschoolers and kindergarteners!
If you have been looking for an easy Valentine craft idea that is great for little hands, this is perfect! Marble painting always turns out super cute and it’s easy enough for even younger children.
But first, let’s talk about why marble painting is beneficial to children.
Are there benefits to Marble Painting?
Science World says that marble painting helps kids practice observation skills, hand eye coordination, and fine motor skills.
Personally, I love marble art because kids of all ages can be creative, it’s so much fun, and you always get great looking results.
(We’ve all been there, right?!?! Pinterest fails are totally a thing!)
This can also be used as a process art activity, as kids are totally in control of the outcome. You can guide them as little or as much as you wish!
Alright! Let’s get started on our Marble Paint Heart for Valentine’s Day.

– Washable Kids Paint in a variety of Valentine Colors (We love this paint from Crayola)
– Scissors
– Stapler
– A few Marbles (you can try other small balls as well!)
– Bowl or paper plate for paint – or an egg carton works really well for this too!

How to Make an Easy Marble Paint Valentine’s Day Craft
First, print out the Free Heart Printable template. I’ve provided the template for you at the end of the instructions under the heading Grab the free printable!
The template is just a basic heart shape. Of course, if you are good at drawing hearts, feel free to skip the template.
To Marble Paint, you have a few choices. You could:
– Print the template on a white piece of paper and have the kids each cut their own out.
– Print the template and place it on top of a stack of white or colored paper. Staple it around the edges to hold the paper in place and cut it out. You can cut multiple hearts at the same time by doing this!
You can absolutely freehand cut hearts as well. So many options to do this but in general, making heart cut outs ahead of time is best for younger kids.
Marble Painting Heart – Preschool
Put the free heart printable in a shallow box. Next, put a little bit of paint into the bowl or plate.
I put several different colors of paint onto a paper plate.
You might like to stick to a traditional Valentine color combination like red and pink. But, it’s totally up to you! We chose to use pink, red, purple, and white.
Keep in mind that paint colors will mix as the kids try the different colors and dip their marble in and out of the paint. We tried to avoid colors that would turn brown when mixed.
Have your child roll the marble into the paint and then pick up the paint covered marble and place it into the shallow box.
I often like to have them place the paint covered marble to the side (not on the heart) to avoid big splashes of paint on the heart, but that’s just my preference.
Have your child hold the box, and show them how to move the box to make the marble move. Kids will observe how this makes the marble move around inside the box leaving marble trail marks on the heart printable.
If you like, you can try some other sizes of balls. You find some some fun ideas for Ball Painting here. (We’ve tried everything from bouncy balls to wiffle balls!)
We used a regular size marble for this paper heart craft, but you might like a different ball better.
And….that’s it! What a fun Valentine craft for preschool! You can display your marbled paper hearts on a bulletin board or even write messages on them to give out as Valentine cards.
