Looking for a fun sensory play activity for Harvest season? This Easy Corn Sensory Bin is perfect for Fall Harvest & Farm Themes!
The air is crisp and the leaves are changing! It’s time to dive into all things Fall Harvest!
I grew up on a farm, so harvest season has always been a special time of year to me.
My dad, who is a Midwest farmer, recently gave me a giant tub of corn that had been picked up in the fields, after the combines had harvested and left a bit behind.
That’s right….no cob is left behind on the farm!
My kids like to feed the squirrels and other creatures in our backyard, and of course I had this fun corn sensory bin in the back of my mind so I excitedly said “Thank you!!!”
If you don’t have a farmer in your life handing you a giant tub of corn (LOL) you can find feed corn like this in your local farm supply store (often next to birdseed).
Alternatively, you could use popcorn kernels as well for this fun corn sensory bin idea.

How to make a Corn Sensory Bin
Alright! Let’s get starting making our Corn sensory bin!
First, take your corn and place it in the sensory bin. If you have field corn that is on the cobs, I would suggest placing about 6-8 cobs of corn in the bin the first day and letting the kids shell it off for you!
My little ones enjoyed this a LOT! There’s something relaxing about taking the corn off the cobs.
Once you have a bin full of corn, it’s time to add your toys!
We added tractors, wagons, trucks, a combine, farm animals, and a farmer figurine. You can add whatever you think your child will enjoy.
I also added some measuring cups and a wooden scoop.
I think the key to engaging your child is to add items that can be loaded with corn, push the corn, and add the the imaginative play.
My kids enjoyed scooping corn into the wagons and trucks and running the combine harvester.
There was also a lot of pretend play to be had with the farm animals as well!
I left a few corn cobs with corn on them in the bin for anyone who wanted to continue to shell corn.
And that’s it! A super easy corn bin for young children that would work well for a farm theme or a fall theme!
My kids had a great time with this harvest bin all week long. I think we will probably get a few weeks out of this one before we move on.
It’s been a load of fun! Even my older kids asked if they could take a turn with this fun activity, so that’s saying something!
This corn sensory play idea is a great way to help little hands build fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spark imaginative play. And of course, it’s so much fun!
