Halloween is coming up quick! We’ve been busy making all things spooky – ghosts, bats, Monster Stew, and of course, these easy spider crafts!
This cute spider craft is great for classrooms, daycares, homeschooling, and more!
It’s a fun way for kids to practice their fine motor skills, scissor skills, and problem solving skills as well.
Let’s dive in!
Supplies for Printable Spider Craft
For this cute spiders, you will need the following simple craft supplies:
- Free Printable Spider Template PDF printed on white paper (You can find the digital file at the end of this tutorial)
- Crayons (Crayola brand is our favorite!)
- Child safe Scissors – Blunt tip Fiskars brand are absolutely the best!
- Glue stick – for putting your spider together. You could also choose white glue or tape if you like. We chose a glue stick because it dries quickly!
Let’s get started on this preschool Halloween craft!
How to Make a Paper Spider Craft
First, print out the spider craft template. You can find the free printable spider at the end of this tutorial.
There are 2 different templates to choose from.
There’s one that is easy for preschoolers to cut. The legs are shorter and wider and much more simple for little hands to cut out.
I also created a second spider with spindly long legs. This spider is great for your older kids. The legs are long and narrow, but this allows kids to fold the legs for a little more of a pop-up effect!
Once you’ve chosen your spider template and printed it, it’s time to color!
Coloring is a great way to help kids build hand strength and practice pencil grip. It’s such a great way to practice those fine motor skills!
You can use crayons, markers, or colored pencils. I recommend crayons because you can easily color large areas quickly and still see the lines for cutting.
You can decide ahead of time if you want your kids to go for a traditional basic black spider or if you want to let them use their favorite colors!
Once they’ve finished coloring both the legs and the body template, it’s time to cut. Provide your kids with blunt tip child safe scissors. (We use the Fiskars brand).
Have them cut out the spider body and then the legs.
Once they have cut out the spider body and all 8 legs, show the children how to fold about an inch of the end of each leg under, as shown in the pictures.
This will make the spider pop a little.
Now, glue the flat part of the legs to the back of the spider. When your spiders have 8 legs, you’re finished!

These would be so cute displayed on a giant spider’s web bulletin board.
Older kids using the long legged spider template might like to add an extra fold in the middle of the leg, to really make it stand out.
In addition to Halloween, you could also use these fun spider crafts for your nursery rhymes theme. They would work for both Little Miss Muffet as well as the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
