Alright! Let’s get started on this simple paper plate snowman craft.
How to make a Paper Plate Snowman Craft
First, provide your child with 2 paper plates, a large one and a small one.
Flip the plates over so that they are face down.
Glue the small plate to the top of the large plate.
If you are having trouble keeping the plates together, you can add some tape to the back to secure it until it dries.
Next, it’s time to cut out the snowman’s hat and nose.
We cut a simple snowman hat shape from black construction paper.
Next we cut out an orange paper nose by simply making a triangle.
You might like to cut these out ahead of time for a preschool classroom.
Simply stack several sheets of construction paper together, staple, and then cut several hats and noses out at the same time.
Now it’s time to decorate the snowman!
Provide your child with Elmer’s school glue.
Have them glue the hat to the top of the snowman.
Then use plenty of glue to add the googly eyes so that they stay in place.
Glue on the orange carrot nose and draw on some “coal” for the snowman’s smile.
Next, glue on the colorful buttons to the snowman’s stomach area.
And finally, using ribbon or fabric, fashion the snowman’s scarf.
We used some leftover red velvet ribbon for the scarf by cutting a large rectangle and cutting some fringe onto a smaller piece to make it look more like a real scarf.
I also cut a smaller strip to add to the snowman’s hat.
And….it’s finished! What a fun and easy craft idea for kids!
I love that this snowman craft can be used as a structured art activity or an outlet for complete creativity. Older kids may enjoy building a snowman from loose parts or items found in nature.
Have fun with it!
