Supplies for Patriotic Star Craft

For this patriotic star craft you will need the following craft materials:

supplies for patriotic star craft: washable paint, stapler, construction paper, marble, scissors, box, and paper plate
  • The Star template – found at the end of this tutorial
  • Red, White, and Blue Construction paper
  • Kid Safety Scissors
  • Marbles
  • A Box that a child can hold easily. You want a box that isn’t too deep or shallow. Sometimes you can find a nice box in the canned goods section at a local store. Alternately, you can cut a larger box down to a smaller size.
  • Paper Plate to hold paint
  • Washable Paint (We love this Crayola paint)
  • Stapler
  • Optional: Elmer’s Glue  and Glitter – if you want to make it sparkle!
  • Baby Wipes or Paper Towels for those little messes.

How to Make an Easy Patriotic Star Craft

First, print out the paper star craft template. Next, you (or your child) will need to cut out the star.

This could be a great chance for kids to practice their scissor skills. With child safe scissors, have your child cut out the star template.

You might also like to pre-cut star templates ahead of time if the children are young or you want to save time. I often like to do this so that I can make a variety of color options like: a blue star or red star.

If you want to make multiple stars with less cutting, you can staple a template onto a thin stack of construction paper. We used a stack of red, white and blue paper.

Next, cut through the layers to create multiple stars.

Now it’s time to marble paint the star craft!

Place your star template in the shallow box.

Pour some paint onto the plate. We used blue, white and red paint to keep things patriotic.

Next, add your marble or ball to the paint.

Kids can roll the marble through the paint to fully cover it. Next, have them place the paint covered marble into the shallow box.

We like to place the marble to the side (not on the paper star at first) to avoid big splotches of paint on the star.

Have the child hold the box, and show them how to move the box to make the marble travel across the paper star template.

Demonstrate how they can move the box up and down and side to side to make paint trail marks on the star craft.

Kids might enjoy experimenting with different sized balls, like bouncy balls or larger marbles.

Keep in mind safety needs for your child’s age and adjust the activity to meet their needs.

Have those baby wipes or paper towels nearby as the kids work, as things can get a little messy anytime paint is involved.

Kids might enjoy making more than one star. Once your kids are finished marble painting, set the patriotic star crafts aside to dry.

Optionally, you can add a little glitter to your stars by adding a little glue and a shake of glitter.

Of course, if you are feeling glitter-adverse, just skip it! We kept ours simple this time without glitter.

And…that’s it! Your patriotic star crafts are finished!

These star crafts are a fun addition to your patriotic bulletin boards or you can thread some of them together with a hole puncher and string to make a patriotic banner.

(If you make a banner, I’d advise using cardstock paper).

Or, you could display them by creating a large patriotic star wreath.
