How to make a Dog Puppet
Provide your child with crayons to color the dog template printable. Any color works but we decided to make a brown dog, as our dog Cocoa is brown!
Kids could definitely color their dog a variety of different colors to represent different dog breeds or a favorite cartoon dog.
We colored the big puppet face circle brown, the ears brown, and the mouth and nose section brown as well.
Once your child has finished coloring, it’s time to cut! Give your child some kid safe scissors.
Explain which pieces of the dog need to be cut out.
I created this dog template printable with little ones in mind, so the pieces are large and spaced far apart for cutting ease.
Kids ages 4 and up shouldn’t have any trouble, but smaller kids may need some help with the cutting.
How to make the Printable Dog Puppet
Once the pieces are cut out, it’s time to assemble the dog paper bag puppet!
Turn your paper bag so that the flat bottom of the bag is on top. The large circle will be placed here. This will be the dog’s face.
Next, encourage your child to lay out the pieces of the dog puppet template before they start to glue. This will help them place things correctly on the face.
On top of the large brown circle, we added the nose and mouth towards the bottom. Then we centered the eyes and added the ears on each side.
Once everything has been placed where you want it, it’s time to glue!
I like to use glue sticks for puppet crafts because they are low-mess and dry quickly so that the kids can play with their puppets right away!
Of course, school glue will work too, but be mindful of glue puddles that might take longer to dry.
Once all of the pieces have been glued down, the puppet dog is finished! Kids can place their hand inside the bag to make the puppet move!
Kids might enjoy a fun puppet show with this puppy craft or they might like pretending to take care of their puppies.
