How to make a Bear Puppet
First print out the bear template printable on white copy paper. Provide your child with crayons to color the bear. We decided to make a classic brown bear.
Kids can color their bear a variety of different colors to represent different types of bears or use their favorite colors and creativity to decorate the bear.
We colored the big circle brown and the mouth & nose section brown as well. We colored the inner circle of the ear peach and the outer circle of the ear brown.
Once they have finished coloring, it’s time to cut!
This bear printable was created with little ones in mind, so the pieces are large and spaced far apart.
Older preschoolers shouldn’t have any trouble cutting it out by themselves, but smaller kids may need a little assistance. We like to use blunt tip scissors to practice those cutting skills.
How to make the Printable Bear Puppet
After you have all the pieces cut out, it’s time to put together the bear paper bag puppet!
Place your paper bag on the table so that the flat bottom of the bag is on top. Place the large circle here. This will be the bear’s face.
Next, show your child how to lay out the pieces of the bear puppet template before they start to glue. Taking time to do this will help them figure out where everything goes.
On the large brown circle, we added the nose & mouth towards the bottom. Then we centered the eyes above that and added the ears.
Once they have the pieces where they want them, it’s time to glue!
Glue sticks are perfect for puppet crafts because they are low-mess and dry quickly. Kids love to be able to play with their fun paper bag puppets right away!
School glue will work too, but keep in mind that liquid white glue will take longer to dry.
Once all of the pieces have been glued down, the puppet bear craft is finished. Kids can place their hand inside to make the puppet move!
Kids might enjoy creating a fun puppet show together. They might like to recreate the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears or make up a story of their own.
