Alright! Let’s get started on this fun Christmas tree craft!

How to make a Paper Plate Christmas Tree Craft

First, provide your child with green paint and a paint brush. Have them paint the entire paper plate green.

You’ll need to let the green paper plate dry. Ours took several hours to dry. You might consider having kids paint one day and decorate the next.

painting the paper plate green, cutting it into triangles, gluing it together.

Once your green paper plate is dry, it’s time to cut. There’s a lot of ways to do this, but I like the way the Christmas tree looks when you cut the paper plate into almost thirds, and then snip a bit off from one of them to make them layer nicely.

Glue your 3 pieces of tree together with the largest piece on the bottom and the smallest one at the top. Younger children might need you to add a bit of tape to the back to keep things together.

Next we cut a long rectangle of brown paper to be the tree trunk.  Glue it behind the tree, preferably on the flat part of the back of the paper plate so it lays down nicely.

Once your tree is assembled, it’s time to decorate!

It’s best to add your star first, so that kids don’t forget to leave room for it. We used foam star stickers which made a super simple and cute tree topper.

Next, we decorated our Christmas tree with colorful buttons. Encourage kids to use plenty of glue, so that the buttons attach to the paper plate.

Alternatively, you could use pom poms, bits of tissue paper, sequins, or stickers to decorate your tree. Whatever you choose, it’s sure to be cute.

And….it’s finished! What a fun and easy Christmas craft idea for kids!
