Let’s get started on this easy paper plate craft!
How to Make a Preschool Paper Fish Craft
First, take an uncoated white paper plate. Cut a small triangle out of the plate to be the mouth. Save the triangle because it will become the tail. (Young children might need help with this step!)
Next, it’s time to add the fish’s scales.
Using a white crayon, have kids draw large wavy lines across the fish’s body.
Encourage kids to press hard as they draw, so that the fish scales show up well.
This is also a good time to have them write their name on the back of the plate.
Now, it’s time to paint! Provide your child with a water cup, paintbrush and watercolor set.
Tell the kids to paint the whole fish and the triangle tail.
It’s always fun to see the different colors the kids choose for their own fish! I painted my paper plate blue, while one of my girls chose green. One of my kids went for a rainbow ombre effect!
Once the whole fish body and tail is painted, it’s time to let it dry. Watercolor paints dry fairly quickly, so you won’t have to wait long!
When the body of the fish and tail have dried, it’s time to glue!
Next, glue the eye near the fish’s mouth and glue on the fish’s tail.
And…. you’re finished! What an easy fun craft!
My kids were so proud of their beautiful fish!
I hope your kids have a lot of fun creating their own colorful fish!
