Alright, let’s get started!
The Nativity Story
In the town of Nazareth, the angel Gabriel visited Mary. She was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter who was a descendant of David.
The angel said, āDo not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will give birth to a son and you are to call him Jesus. He will be the Son of God and His kingdom will never end!ā
āHow can this be, since I am not married?ā Mary asked.
The angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come on her and the child born would be Godās own Son.
Mary said, āI am the Lordās servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.ā
When Joseph found out that Mary was with child, he planned to send her away quietly, but an angel appeared to him in a dream and told him that the baby was from God. He would be called Jesus, the Son of God.
Joseph woke up from the dream, knowing that the baby was from God, and that Mary had not done anything wrong. Joseph married Mary.
At this time, the emperor of Rome commanded that there should be a census, to count the people.
So, Joseph and Mary traveled to Josephās hometown, Bethlehem to be counted.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born.
There was no room at the inn, so when Baby Jesus was born, his mother Mary wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger.
There were shepherds out the in fields nearby, watching over their sheep that night. An angel appeared to them and they were scared.
The angel said, āFear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.ā
A great number of angels appeared in the sky praising God and saying, āGlory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.ā
When the angels left, the shepherds said to each other, āLetās go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.ā
They found Mary and Joseph and the baby lying in the manger, just as the angel had told them. They praised God and spread the word about what they had been told about this child.
Everyone was amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
Mary treasured up all of these things and pondered them in her heart.
Nativity Story Continued
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, during the time of King Herod, wise men came to Jerusalem. They had noticed a new star shining in the skies and had followed it all the way to Judea, because they believed that it was a sign that a great king had been born.
When they arrived in Jerusalem they asked, āWhere is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him?ā
This was very troubling to King Herod and the people of Jerusalem.
When the King called together his advisors, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him in Bethlehem in Judea.
King Herod asked the wise men when they had first seen the star and sent them to Bethlehem to look for the child. He told them to report back to him when they found the child.
The wise men went on their way and the star went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star they were overjoyed.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother and bowed down to worship him.
Then they gave him gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The wise men were warned in a dream to not return to Herod, so they went back to their country a different way.
When they had gone, an angel of the Lord told Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt because Herod was going to search for the child to kill him.
So, Joseph and Mary left in the night for Egypt, where they kept Jesus safe until the death of King Herod.
