Alright, let’s get started.

Story of Daniel and the Lions DenPart 1

King Darius appointed officials to rule throughout his kingdom, with 3 administrators over them. One of these 3 was Daniel.

Daniel set himself apart from the other top administrators and officials because he was honest and trustworthy. The King planned to set him in charge of the whole kingdom.

This made the other administrators and officials jealous, so they came up with a plan.

They knew that Daniel was honest and would never do anything wrong or corrupt in his job, but they knew that he would always be faithful to God.

These jealous men tricked the king into making a new law.

They told the King that there should be a new law. The decree stated that no one was to pray to anyone but King Darius for the next 30 days or they would be thrown into a den of lions.

The decree could not be changed once it was signed in accordance with their laws.

The King signed the decree, not realizing that it was a trap for Daniel.

Story of Daniel and the Lions Den – Part 2

When Daniel found out about the new decree, he went home and prayed as he always did. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed giving thanks to God next to the window that opened toward Jerusalem.

The other officials found Daniel praying and asking God for help, so they went to the King and told him that Daniel was breaking the new law. Daniel was continuing to pray 3 times a day despite the new decree.

King Darius was sad. He tried to rescue Daniel and made every effort to save him until sundown. The officials came to the king and reminded him that no decree that the king issues can be changed. So the king had to give the order and they put Daniel in the lions den.

King Darius said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you.” Daniel 6 16. Then a stone was placed over the mouth of the den and the king sealed it with his signet ring and the rings of the nobles to show that it was official and Daniel’s situation would not change.

The king returned to the palace. He did not eat or sleep.

Story of Daniel and the Lions Den – Part 3

First thing in the morning, King Darius hurried to the lions den.

He called out, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent is angel and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” Daniel 6:20-22

The king was so happy! He gave the order to have Daniel brought out the the lions den. There was no scrape found on him, because he had trusted in God.

The king commanded that the men who had tricked the king and accused Daniel be brought to him. They were thrown into the lions den and the lions quickly overpowered them.

King Darius ordered his people to respect God.

“For he is the living God and he endures forever: his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”

Daniel 6: 26-27

I hope this synopsis was helpful. This is a kid-friendly version – I didn’t mention what happened to the families of the men who deceived the king. For the full graphic story, you can check out the book of Daniel.
