Free Thanksgiving Handprint Poem from Preschoolers to Parents

Turkey Handprint Craft Supplies

For this Handprint Turkey Poem craft you will need the following items
- Free Printable Turkey Handprint Poem Printable (The free template is found at the end of this tutorial).
- Washable Paint (You’ll need brown paint and 4 more vibrant colors)
- Paintbrush
- Water cup (to switch colors)
- Markers (we used brown, orange and red)
- Small Googly eyes (1 per child)
- Elmer’s school glue
- Optional: Plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface, paint smocks, baby wipes (to minimize the mess)
Turkey Handprint with Poem
Let’s get started on this Turkey Handprint Poem craft!
First, print out your Free Printable Turkey Handprint Poem Printable (found at the end of this tutorial).
Next, get your washable paint ready.
You will need to work fairly quickly in order to make a pretty handprint. The paint dries rather quickly on a child’s hand.
First, paint the child’s palm and thumb generously with brown washable paint. Wash your brush out in your water cup to add the next color.
Next, paint each of the fingers a vibrant color (these will be the turkey’s feathers!) We chose to use rainbow colors – so we did red, orange, yellow and green.
Once the child’s hand is painted, go ahead and make a print. Press down their hand onto the center of the page.
Be careful not to let them move their fingers or you will get a smudged effect.
You can see my little helper thought this was pretty fun!
Once you have a handprint on the poem printable, allow it time to dry.
When the handprint is dry, you can have the child glue a googly eye to the turkey’s head. Then they can draw a small beak, legs, and a red gobbler onto their handprint turkey craft.
If you are working with toddlers, you might need to assist them with the details on the turkey.
And….that’s it! An easy Handprint Turkey craft!
