All you need for this yarn wrapped heart is cardboard from your recycling bin and a few simple craft supplies!

Supplies for this Yarn Wrapped Heart Craft:
For this simple heart art project, you will need the following craft supplies:
– Thin Cardboard – I recommend using a cereal box or other cardboard from your recycle bin.
– Scissors – strong enough to cut thin cardboard
– Pencil
– Yarn – any color will do! I recommend red yarn, pink yarn, or a pastel multicolored yarn. We used some from our local craft store, but you can find similar yarn here.
– Scotch tape or masking tape
-Free Heart Template (Found at the end of this article). You might like to print it on card stock to make it easier to trace.
How to Make a Yarn Hearts
First, print our your heart shape template. Cut out the heart you like the best. There is both a large heart and a smaller heart to choose from.
Place the heart template on top of your thin cardboard and trace around the heart shape. Cut out the cardboard heart that you just traced.
Tape the beginning of your colorful piece of yarn to the back of your heart.
Now, wrap yarn around the heart.
Be sure that the yarn is tight and secure on the heart. If you get too close to the edges, it can definitely slide off. You can use glue or tape on the back to secure things a bit more.
Once you are finished adding yarn, use glue or tape to secure the end of the yarn.
And….that’s it! An easy heart craft idea for kids!
This craft is a fun way to practice fine motor skills. I would recommend doing it with a small group of children to keep things simplified!
These hearts are adorable decorations for a table centerpiece or on a class bulletin board. What fun!
