Halloween is just around the corner. It always sneaks up on me, so this year, I’m getting a head start!
My kids love doing a variety of fun Halloween crafts during the fall season, so I decided to add something new to the mix!
This printable monster puppet is simple to cut out, making it perfect for preschoolers and kindergarteners. Simple puppets are great crafts to work on fine motor skills and scissor skills.
There’s 2 pages for this free printable monster puppet. The first page contains the very basics for a monster puppet.
If you have little ones that will be overwhelmed by choices, or don’t like the thought of leftover pieces, I recommend sticking to this first basic page.
However, if you want to add fun choices to the mix and allow for more creativity, there’s a second sheet that contains multiple options for monster eyes, noses, and mouths.
Alright! Let’s get started on these little paper bag monster puppets!

How to make a Monster Puppet
First print out the monster template on white paper.
As I mentioned before, there’s 2 pages for this template. You can print the first page to keep it simple, or use both pages to add an element of choice and creativity.
We colored the monster purple. Then we added a bit of pink and red for the monster’s mouth. We left the eyes plain and colored the nose orange.
Kids might like to give their monster one eye….or 3! The number of eyes is up to them!
Once they have finished coloring, it’s time to cut!
This template was designed with younger kids in mind, so older preschoolers shouldn’t have any trouble cutting it out by themselves. Younger children may need a little help.
We like to use child safe blunt tip scissors to practice those cutting skills.
How to make the Printable Monster Puppet
Once you have all the template pieces cut out for the paper bag monster puppet, it’s time to put it all together.
Place your paper bag on the table so that the flat bottom of the bag is on the top.
Using a little bit of glue, place the monster shape onto the paper bag.
Next, it can be helpful for kids to lay out all the pieces on the face before they start to glue to make sure there’s room for everything.
Then have them glue down each part of the monster’s head.
I like to use glue sticks for puppet crafts because they dry quickly and that means that kids can play with their paper bag puppets right away.
Alternatively, you can use school glue, but keep in mind that liquid white glue will take longer to dry.
Now the monster puppet is finished! Kids might want to make a second one…they are so much fun to create!

You might like to add construction paper hands and legs. We decided to keep ours simple.
Kids can place their hand inside of the bag to put on a monster puppet show.
