How to Make a Paper Plate Chick
First, give each child a paper plate. Have each child write their name on the back of the paper plate.
Pour some yellow paint onto a 2nd paper plate and provide paint brushes. Show the kids how to paint their paper plate yellow. Once they have a completely yellow paper plate, allow it a bit of time to try.
When the paint is dry, provide each child with 2 large googly eyes and show them how to add the eyes to the top of the chick’s face. I like to remind my kids that just a dab of glue will do (to avoid those glue puddles).
Next, each child will need some orange paper to cut out the chick’s beak. We like to cut out a diamond and then fold it into a small triangle, which gives it the 3D effect. (You could prepare the beaks ahead of time and have younger children simply glue the orange beak on if you like).
Next glue the chick’s feet to the bottom of the paper plate. I have included a free template for both the beak and the chick’s feet to simplify this.
You can either trace the feet pattern to orange paper or cut these out in bulk ahead of time for your students. Alternately, older kids may be able to create their own orange feet for their sweet chick.
Now, give each child several yellow feathers. Glue feathers to the body of the chick. We just used a few feathers to surround the chick’s face.
Last, tie some ribbon into a bow and glue the cute little pastel ribbon bow onto your chick. Depending on the child’s age, you will likely have to help tie the bow.
Boys can use their bow as a bow tie and girls can use their bow as a hair bow for their baby chick crafts! Too cute!
And….it’s finished! Such an easy kids Easter paper plate craft.
Free Chick Template
To make this chick super simple, I’ve included a free template for the beak and feet.
Feel free to print on orange paper and have the kids cut it out or trace it onto orange construction paper.
Alternatively you can cut out the feet and beaks for your little ones in bulk by taking the template and stacking multiple sheets of orange paper beneath it to cut once and get many copies.
