How to make a Rocket Paper Craft
First, you will need to print out the free rocket template onto white cardstock paper. You’ll want to use a heavy paper like cardstock to give the rocket structure and sturdiness. Alternatively, you could trace the rocket ship shapes onto cardboard for your child.
Next provide your child with crayons or markers.
Have them decorate their rocket, being mindful that the seat of the rocket will cover a portion of their rocket.
My kids drew fun designs to personalize their rockets.
Kids also might like to color both sides as both sides will be seen as the rocket flies.
Next, it’s time to cut!
Have your child cut out the simple rocket shape as well as the rectangle seat. We used a 1 inch paper punch to cut the circle from the middle of the rectangle.
It’s hard to align the circle punch just right, so you might have to either trim the rectangle or just simply flip your page over so that the lines aren’t seen.
Alternately, if you don’t have a paper punch, you could fold the circle and use scissors to cut the center out.
Next, assist your child in curling the rocket seat into a cylinder and taping it to the rocket. Tape it securely on all sides.
Now it’s time to test your toy figurine. If your toy is too big, you might need to make the seat wider. You might like to add a little tape “seatbelt” if needed. Ours stayed by itself.
Lastly, your child can add a bit of fire to the rocket blasters at the bottom of the rocket ship with some red, orange, or yellow construction paper, scrapbook craft papers or tissue paper.
We cut thin rectangles of each color of construction paper and taped them to the bottom of the rocket.
And….it’s finished!
I hope your kids enjoy it as much as mine did! If you are planning a preschool space themed unit, I hope you find this fun rocket craft to be a great addition to your lesson plans.
My kids were so excited to play with their rocket crafts.
These are the perfect addition to pretend play!
This adorable craft also works for the letter R, a space themed classroom, or a fun idea for a rainy day. Older children might enjoy this as an easy summer craft or to celebrate Space week.
