These Bottle Cap Keychains were a hit.
The kids loved making them so much, they asked to make a second one! I loved how this craft was fun for both the younger kids as well as the teenagers.

Supplies Needed for Bottle Cap Keychain
For this DIY keychain craft idea you will need the following:
- Bottle Cap Pendants with split rings
- Keychain Rings
- White Cardstock
- 1 inch Circle Punch
- Fine Tip Pens or Colored Pencils
- Clear Epoxy Stickers
- E6000 Craft Adhesive (alternatively, you could use a hot glue gun)
Once you have your supplies gathered, it’s time to create a keychain!
How to Make a DIY Bottle Cap Keychain
First, attach your keychain ring to your bottle cap keychain with split ring.
Next, using your Circle Punch, cut out 1-inch circles from your cardstock. You will need one circle for each keychain.
Provide your child with a 1 inch circle of cardstock and colored pencils to create a design for the keychain.
We found that colored pencils worked fine for this project, but if you want the colors to really pop, you might like to try some fine tip pens.
The fine tip on your drawing utensil is important for this project as the drawings are very tiny – so I don’t recommend crayons or a blunt tip marker.
Once your child has finished designing the picture, it’s time to add a clear epoxy sticker to protect it.
To do this easily, simply drop the cardstock picture circle face up into the bottlecap (any direction – it doesn’t matter!) Then add the epoxy clear sticker to the top and smooth it down.
Next, drop the epoxy covered picture into your hand. It’s time to officially glue to to the bottle cap keychain.
We used E6000 Craft Adhesive for this.
Just add a dab to the center of the bottle cap keychain and then place your picture on top.
And….it’s finished! You have your own personalized bottle cap keychain!
At camp, this craft project was a real hit! The kids really enjoyed creating their own keychain and several kids made a 2nd or 3rd one to give to a friend! What fun!
FAQ
What Can I use Instead of E6000 Craft Adhesive?
I have also used a hot glue gun for bottle cap keychains in the past. It works just fine!
For my purposes of working with lots of kids, a hot glue gun wasn’t very practical, so we used the E6000 craft adhesive instead.
It is a lot like super glue, so of course, precautionary warnings are needed if you let the older kids use it. I wouldn’t advise letting littles ones use this.
Where do you buy bottle cap keychain supplies?
I was able to find everything needed for this project on Amazon. See the list of supplies above for the exact products I used.
You may also be able to find similar supplies at craft stores.
Keep in mind that using an actual bottle cap can be sharp. You need the edges of the bottle cap to be child safe – so I would recommend buying these pre-made with the small holes and split rings already attached. It makes it so much more easy!
Can I use this process to Create Bottle Cap Necklaces?
Yes! Absolutely you can use this process for any of your craft projects.
Instead of putting your bottle cap pendant with a jump ring on a key ring, you can place it on a simple necklace chain.
This process can also be used to create a zipper pull as well.
What should design should I put on a keychain?
Many of the kids liked putting their name with a fun design around it. Others drew flowers, hearts, animals, cartoon characters, etc.
Some kids wanted to cut out a picture to place under the epoxy. So, a few used photographs while others used a candy wrapper to create a one of a kind design.
