What is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that celebrates the May 5th 1862 win over the French army at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

It’s important to note that this is not Mexican Independence Day, which is a popular misconception.

According to History.com, Cinco de Mayo is a fairly minor holiday in Mexico.

But in the United States, the fifth of May has become a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, especially in areas where a lot of Mexican-Americans live.

So, Cinco de Mayo is an excellent time to celebrate and teach children about Mexican culture.
